Anywhere from 30 - 160 in some cases. As far as working properly, depends on the load. Radio, lights, A/C going... you'll probably need to be around 1500 rpms.
What's the year make and model of the car or truck? When alternators were first used by Chrysler they had 60 amps. GMC @ Chevrolet Duramax powered trucks have 145 amp alternators.
Aftermarket high amperage alternators could have over 500 amps.
old ones were 30A and new ones are anywhere up to 120A.
question is, why. and whats yours? you can get the rating if the case is stamped, or read the numbers off it to the parts store.
you can build hybrid alternators or buy specific application ones.
Changing pulleys is like the sprockets on your bike. theres a trade off. if you gain rpm, you hurt longevity. There is one for your need. Try napa or look at the writeups in car craft about all the possibilities, or was it hot rod.......whatever.
from 30 to 120 amps , and have welded with a alternator before by cross jumping regalter
I am curious as to how much amperage is produced by a car alternator and how much RPM it takes for it to work properly?
