Loosen the bolts to the wheel, jack the car up and take the wheel off. Undo the bolts holding the brake caliper on and remove the caliper. Retract the piston with a spanner, place the new pads in and bolt the caliper back up. Replace wheel and pump the brakes. 15-30 minutes is usually about right depending on your experience.

Of course there may be complications - you may have air in the system or they could be drums which are much more complicated. Its not too hard though with a manual and the right tools.

I can put new breaks in a car in about 5 seconds with a hammer.

If you're asking about B-R-A-K-E-S plan on 1-2 hours per axle.

I put new front pads on a 06 durango in 45 minutes Total, both wheels. simple easy to do.The rear pads were 90 minutes.for both. Drums are Harder to Do for me.I put new pads on the front of our Geo metro 20 minutes each wheel. depends on the Car.

'74 Dart, huh? Disc front, or drums all around? This is going to be a multi-step process.1st, crack ALL lugnuts loose. Be aware, Chrysler used to put L/H threads on drivers side lugs/studs. Jack and block/jackstands all 4 corners. Pull wheels, front calipers and rotors. Have to remove spindle nut, washer and outer bearing, pull rotor, get seal and inner bearing out. Clean and inspect bearings and races. Pull rear drums, shoes, and wheel cylinders. REMEMBER how all comes apart, take picture, or buy Chilton's manual. You'll need to exchange brake shoes for core charge. Have drums/rotors turned. Need at least pads, front seals, shoes, rear wheel cyls., and hardware kits. Qt. brake fluid, wheel bearing grease, Brakleen (green can better), tube disc brake quiet, never-seize. Plus a lot of brake-specific tools. Install, adjust rears, and bleed all R/R, L/R, R/F, L/F. Depending on how close parts store and machine shop is, and your ability to overcome obstacles like frozen bleed screws, pitted bearing races, stuck drums, etc., will be an all-day project. Have fun.

It doesn't take long. About an hour including jacking up the car, changing brakes, and dropping it back down. Very easy.

are you trying to break your car? or put new brakes in?

What's the year make and model car that you want to replace the BRAKES on.
