How easy is it to change a fly wheel on an 88 firebird?

Well, here's your 1st project. Buy the repair manual for the 'Bird. Read "Clutch Removal and Installation" section. It is a manual-shift car, right? Automatics don't have flywheels, they have flex-plates. Regardless, driveshaft, cross-member and transmission HAVE to come out, may have to move exhaust pipes in case of duals w/ crossover. Easy to do with right tools, jacks and JACKSTANDS. NEVER get under a vehicle that's on just a jack. In case of auto trans., tranny jack is a necessity. Manual trans., need a clutch pilot shaft.

Its not easy they dont make jobs like this easy.

You must R&R the tranny.

Pick up the PHONE, and CALL AROUND!!! As for you doing it, FORGET IT!!! You don't have an engine crane for starters, and your basic tool set from Wal-Mart isn't going to cut it.

I'm looking into getting an 88 firebird from Craigslist and the only problem is that it has a cracked flywheel. Car drives fine and comes with the replacement flywheel. How much would a mechanic charge me, and how difficult would it be to do myself? I want this for a project car so I would prefer to do this myself. Also, any links to videos showing how to change a flywheel on a similer car would be apreciated!
