As for a road trip, you think the car will make it, then go! Any car can have trouble on a long trip, even a new one. Enjoy!
Take the car to a Tyre Specialist and ask them to check for you.
If the tires are bald. witch means you can't see the design very well
Go to any tire retailer to have your tires inspected. They can perform a tread depth measurement for you. Tire tread is measured in 32'nds of an inch, with a new tire having 10/32 or more. Once you get below 4/32 you need to start tire shopping. At 2/32 you would have a very immediate need for replacement. Your tires also need to be inspected for cracking, dry rot, feathering, cupping and uneven wear.
Winter tires have NO UTQG (wear rating). The tread will melt away on dry pavement. Measure the tread depth with a tread depth tool from any auto parts store.
Go to tirerack.com and enter your tire size then compare the UTQG wear ratings under the picture of the tire by opening SPECS. Take time then to open the word SURVEY under the picture of the tire.
Quality tires these days should last 50,000 to 80,000 miles depending on how the vehicle is driven, if they're kept properly inflated and balanced and if the vehicle is kept in allignment.
In other words, your tires are considered just about "new" - if they are wearing unevenly, something is wrong with the suspension or steering.
Look at them. Simple.
I have a 2000 Subaru outback. Last time the tires were replaced was in February. Since then though I've driven about 4000 miles. I want to do another road trip but idk if I need to replace my tires first? I'll be honest I know nothing about cars other than basic maintenance. Also the engine in this thing was all but replaced last year. Someone told me my car can't handle three 2k mile road trips in six months and that it will die on me. Is that true? It's never had even a slight problem before. Its a manual if that means anything. All wheel drive
