How do you check your transmission fluid level in a manual transmission?

There IS NO "fluid tank" on a manual transmission. Most of them have a filler plug on the side of the transmission case that you can open up and the gear oil level should be right at the bottom of the plug.

Of course, unless there are obvious leaks coming from your transmission, there's really no reason to check the fluid level anyway. Manual transmissions do not consume gear oil.

on the transmission there should be 2 plugs ! to check and fill the transmission you take out the top plug and use your finger in the hole, but park on a level surface first ! the bottom plug is for draining the transmission !

It should be filled up to that level, but sometime the oil is warm and expands or the vehicle is not level and it 'might' leak out (not 'will')

year, make, and model will help. because if you open the wrong plug you could be in trouble fast

People say you can unscrew a bolt on your fluid tank and stick your finger in there and feel how low it is.

But they say if you undo that bolt some of the fluid will leak out. So it won't be full after that.

Why would they make a fluid in your truck that you can't check without draining some of it?
