just try a bit of acetone.
new buttons are under a dollar around here...why play with it , but hold it with a pliers and gently slide a single a razor scraper along the surface...I've replaced hundreds of these...or turn it into your insurance the button comes on the new windshield...
Use acetone, like Oni Raptor said. Then get new friends so this hateful thing doesn't happen again. Somebody hates you.
I have no idea what a rear-view mirror button is, so I can't help.
I tried the hairdryer tip to no avail, and also just taking a lighter to it didn't work either.
