See if you can get a "used" transmission installed, it should be less than $3,000 , second it is had to believe a 2002, a 12 year old car could only have 13k miles. I bet if you check a car fax that Honda has many more miles than a mere 13k.
Call Honda and ask them if they would cover the problem (though the car is old) because many other people had similar problems.
If that fails, you probably should scrap the car for parts, or sell it to a junk yard. Perhaps a used car dealer would give you a trade in allowance?
As it is the van is worth very little with a bad transmission. My advice would be to purchase a used transmission and have an independent transmission shop install it. I am positive it will not cost $3,000.
What if you spend that kind of money on your van, and it breaks down again in 1-2 years? The best thing is to put that money towards a new vehicle. If you do go for the repair, look around for a better price. Transmission replacement is expensive, but shouldn't be that expensive.
What bo said.
Do you not have insurance?
i have a used honda van 2002 with 13k miles, few days ago i was driving and the car suddenly starts jerking and the front light turns yellow. i found out the transmission is broken and require 3k to fix it. i looked online and find out this problem occurred to many honda cars between 2002 and 2003. what can i do to get it fixed or i should just buy a new car?
