Hi as the belt needs to be changed on most cars every 50 k miles it must be over due now for another belt change.
Unless you have proof of the change then you should have reduced the price to cover the change.
The Peugeot mileage is high but an early change is recommended.
The official number is 140,000 according to most people except for the 1.6 Diesel which is a chain.
The opinion is about 75000 to change it.. A broken belt writes the car off.
There really isn't any way of knowing other than looking at it to see if it's worn. If it's checking and cracking, it needs to be replaced.
Hi,
I brought a Peugeot 206 a few months ago with 107k miles on the clock - it's had one owner from new and seems like it's been kept in good condition.
Unfortunately the service history in the log book stops at 40k but I assume the cars been serviced and maintained. I was just wondering whether there's anyway to tell whether the timing belt has been changed?
I've had the car fully serviced and has 12 months M.O.T but I'm now inbetween jobs so can't really afford to change the belt "just in case".
I know if the belt hasn't been changed I'll have to get a new car and will change it if I'm sure it hasn't been done but would like to be able to get some sort of idea before paying out the £200 - any ideas?
It's a 2001 206 diesel
