HOW CAN I KNOW IF A CADILATIC CONVERTER IS BAD?

A Honda Dealer will read the stored fault codes and tell you IF the converter is bad.

Anyone that calls it a "cadilatic" converter has no chance of diagnosing if they need a catalytic converter on their car. Have a mechanic diagnose your problem...NOT check what you think is wrong! That way you won't make them look down the wrong trail for a problem that doesn't exist. Car owners should always just tell the mechanic what the var is doing...not tell them what they think is wrong.

The simplest test is with one of those lazer thermometers.

point it at the exhaust before the cat,

then \at a point after the cat,

the design and function of a cat means there should be a significantly higher temperature reading after the cat.

If there's little or no difference then the cat is shot.

I assume you mean catalytic converter. You will know when you get a check engine light showing that error or you see a drop in fuel economy.

the cel is one way on an obd2 but that is post 96. you did not state a year so ill go on to another test. with a scanning thermometer, for lack of a better term, you check the temp before, in the middle and after, to see if it is higher in that mid section. it should be.

Emissions test failure. Engine management light illuminated on the dash. Noticeable loss of power if the internals have collapsed.

The word is CATALYTIC. Now go talk to a local mechanic and get it tested.

When it stays out all night without calling.

take it to an emmisions inspection station
