this IS/WAS originally designed to accept either a turbo or super charger. both are offered by TRD for this engine.
however, as stated,
mid to high mileage used engines have wear mated/work hardened parts. restoring, let alone increasing oem combustion pressures w/o refurbishing engine internals such as at least a valve re-lap and or replacing at least compression rings is a must iffin you want the mod to live for any length of time/mileage. that's actually engine modding 101.
FYI,
this engine, within limits, does not need a piston or con rod upgrade to support your mods. just a little refurbishing to support it is all.
How skilled are you in engine rebuilding ? Since your asking I presume You have none. Which means you need to pay to have yours rebuilt to handle the turbo Or buy a new motor thats ready for a turbo Either case its thousands of dollars Yahoo doesn't provide enough space to tell you exactly what you need to do
One thing you can do is take an automotive engine coarse at a college then you can rebuild the car there and pay wholesale for parts and no labor since its a learning environment No one can explain it unless you
know something Otherwise I would be speaking Greek to you. Its not all that simple.
Good luck

I wouldn't do it man. You will pretty much break the bank in making a normal aspirated engine into a forced induction plus it won't really work the way you want it to. I suggest in looking for an already boosted engine and dropping that bad boy in; my rule of thumb stick with the same manufacturer. You are in luck celicas did have a boosted engine in their all trac model. But honestly I would never boost a front wheel drive car (torque steer, weak acceleration, weak burnouts).
Your engine wasn't designed to handle boosted pressure. So you'll need new pistons and rods, new crank and bearings, new camshaft and valve springs. In other words, a new engine. Get it? Put in a turbo without making those changes and you'll wind up with molten metal.
you are a dumbass
Okay, so i have a 2000 toyota celica GT. It has a aftermarket intake, suspension lowered and an aftermarket exhaust. Im thinking about putting a turbo kit on it, and yes, this is my first modifiable car, so I know nothing basically. I did some research, and found out that I need engine work before a turbo kit? Im hoping somebody can provide me links and lecture me what needs to be done. thanks
