Engine rpm bounces by about 100 while maintaining speed when the engine is cold?

I guess that you got bedazzled by the four rings. Carfax NEVER mentions maintenance, only if the dealer records it. Did it come to your mindset that you should have had the car checked over prior to purchase? I am going to let you in on something, you spent way too much on this A4, since in about 4000 miles it is due for a timing belt service which can run about $1500 +/-.

Is this car a tiptronic/automatic? If so, it may be shifting into and out of fifth, but you are not be specific enough about your issue, and I cannot diagnose while looking at a white screen.

It is a tiptronic/automatic. I did buy it rather impulsively. I feel embarrassed. I guess the carfax thing was oil changes and stuff, not maintenance. I don't know a lot about cars.

Some automatic transmissions have a torque converter clutch or lock-up solenoid. That might be the issue.

If it is only around 100 rpms and it goes away. It nothing serious.

I got a 2007 Audi a4 a few days ago from a dealership. It has 136,000 miles on it. I've noticed something strange that happens in the first 10 minutes of driving. If I maintain speed at around 40 mph, the rpm will bounce up and down a little bit, by about 100 rpm. It's very slight, and I can just barely feel it. It seems like this only happens in the first 10 minutes of driving.

I'm worried because right before I signed the paperwork, they tried to get me to sign up for a warranty. They kept telling me how expensive these cars can be to repair if something serious happens. The warranty was $4200 3 years/36,000 miles. The car cost $10,900. It only had one owner and had a carfax history of regular maintenance, so I wasn't too worried at the time. People at work have started saying the same thing. Should I be worried?
