hey are mated to that journal. They might not fit correctly. They may even be loose. You shouldn't really reuse bearing like that anyways. Since the were torqued down and used. This is why you mark rods an rod caps. And you should of put them in bags or arranged them in firing order so you don't mix them up. Same for the connecting rods. They HAVE to be put in the correct order. .001" can be a big difference from one to the other. One could be too tight the other be too loose. which will lead to catastrophic mechanical failure. Than the engine will be junk or need to have crank journals redone and by more bearings., Speaking of which this is another reason to keep bearings in order. You can have a crank with a journal cut or polished and the other be completely stock.

Apparently you did the work yourself and you goofed up.

Yes it can. The bearings are worn a certain way, so you need to match them up to the original cap and connecting rod. If you can't, or did'nt, They may wear out prematurely.

Personally would get new bearings. 3000 miles on it is not that new.

Edit: I would not like to do the job again. Not like it's easy pulling the motor out.

You should be fine, providing you mic all the rod bearing journals. And if they are all the same, you will be OK.
