EGR Valve is serious?

On some vehicles, some upper engine parts need to come off to get to the egr valve, so Labour could account for some of that ridiculously high price.

Egr valve issues can cause problems like misfiring, rough idle, spark knock or "pinging", poor fuel econony and increased emissions. Excessive misfiring and pinging can damage other engine components, so it would be wise to not ignore it for too long. If the light comes on and goes off, then the worst you will probably see is increased emissions and lowered fuel economy. If the light stays on for any amount of time, or flashes when it's on, then you should definitely get it replaced.

Get a quote from somewhere else. Order the part yourself online, and get a privately owned garage to do the work for you.

If it is coding and or clogged up or stuck open or shut this is really bad for the engine and will shorten its life.

It will knock and run hot in the cylinders and cause premature death one day. Not to mention kill the cat. Didn't they tell you this? Dude!

Buy the part for 180.00 and use a 12mm socket to remove the two bolts holding it on and replace it.. Simple job for your car.

I don't ever remember an EGR valve being so expensive. It's not a complicated device, but with all the high-tech stuff these days, I can see it being over $100... but $500 seems awfully high. Ask them to show you what is wrong and why it costs so much.

I have a Mitsubishi Galant 2006

The Engine light comes on and off, I went to the dealer and they did full diagnosis of the engine and they told me I have to change the EGR Valve only.

Now I know a dealer won't say fix cause they want to sell.

But how serious is EGR Valve problem? I don't sen to have any issue with the car and it costs over $500 to replace with labour.

I don't want to spend this much if I don't have to. What do you think?
