Sooooo, on one hand, you will have SOME brakes left (I hope) to stop your car, BUT the longer you go, the more that will need to be replaced.
you haven't mentioned if the grinding noise is only when you apply the brakes or it s constant...cause that will make the difference between a dragging caliper or ebrake and worn brake pads...
if the noise have just started and is caused by worn out pads...you still have sometime before you damage your router but you will still be able to brake just not as efficiently.
It is a risk but I have done that before with no problems.
May have to replace rotors. Since you decline to mention what type of vehicle you're driving, that's about all I can tell you. Bring an anchor.
You might score the brake drums which will be expensive to replace ,if you must drive use your gears to slow down ,its really not worth the risk friend: Please take care !!
The metal grinding noise began yesterday, it's likely that I have to get new pads and possibly rotors. Today is Canada Day, so the earliest I can get it to a garage would be Wednesday or Thursday.
Unfortunately I have to work tonight which means I have to drive 30 minutes each way on the highway to get to and from work. It's an overnight shift, so the highway will be relatively empty on the way out there and almost completely abandoned on the way home.
Despite the grinding noise, as of yet there has been no effect on my ability to stop the car.
How much of a risk am I taking?
