Driving the car at any speed does not refill the battery with sulfuric acid and distilled water. The older the battery the longer it takes for the *alternator to recharge it.
Check the battery cells with an inexpensive with a *battery hydrometer to see of any of the cells are discharged to the point of becoming shorted out. A battery with shorted cells will not recharge with a battery charger or alternator.
Have your battery *load tested at any store that sells new ones other than Auto Zone. A quick 15 second battery load test will tell the reserve amperage capacity. AMPERAGE soins starter motors not voltage.
If you rev the engine with the transmission in "park", yes the battery can be recharged slightly faster than if the engine was just idling. Probably wastes more gas than it is worth.
