Does my car alternator need to be replaced if it's putting out 13.83 volts when the car is on?

actually I think thats normal for the alternator

Everything is ok if the following volt tests are like this:

Battery voltage with the engine Not running, around 12.7 Vdc.

Battery voltage with the engine running, around 13.3 to 14.1 Vdc.

Yours is okay.

Note to everyone: Autozone's can not fully test the alternators. Pep Boys are worse.

There's nothing wrong with the alternator. You would definitely know by now since you've been driving around for a week. Voltage is totally ok. No worries.

That's what i figured too. I just worry because if it goes out on me on a major long journey, say like sometimes I drive 2 hours out of my way to do freelance work, then I could be SOL.

nothing wrong

I had an issue a couple weeks ago when I was driving and then parked my car, that when I came back to the car to get on my way, it would not start up. Luckily I was at and Autozone and they gave me a jump and I was on my way. Went back to work and went home. The next day the car would not start and so I decided to buy a new battery because it was about time anyway to get a replacement. However, the battery reads at 12.73 volts (that I believe is normal) when the car is off and then at 13.84 volts when it's on. I was told that the battery should read higher like at around 14 volts. I took it to an Autozone to check it for free and they told me through the digital tester (it's a Highfalutin fancy one than scans I guess from the battery. Clamos on the battery terminals.) that "all diodes failed" whatever that means and said I should get it checked out by a mechanic and that probably the alternator is bad or going bad. However, it's been like a week and the car starts up fine and runs like it did before. I would think if the alternator is bad wouldn't I have a drained battery by now that I've driven it around town. I'm worried that maybe it's about to or that it really is fine. It's a 2002 Ford Escape. And please no jokes about Fords. Fords are not all bad. Cars are good as long as you take care of them. I'm trying learn more about cars so I don't always have to run to the mechanic and shell out a lot of dough. Married with 2 little boys and expense up the wazoo. Thanks.
