For reference, my 2002 Dodge Durango 4wd with 4.7L V8 gets about 16 MPG. My 2004 Jeep Liberty 2wd with 3.7L V6 gets about 18 MPG. Very little difference in MPG from 4wd V8 and 2wd V6.
if the two trucks are identical (engine, tranny, tires, gears) then the 4x4 may get slightly lower MPG overall like 1mpg difference if you engage the 4 wheel drive that is a different story the 2 wheel drive may be less insurance save a bit on gas minimal. but that 4x4 REALLY comes in handy..
It is NOT that simple. We have to take into account the engine size, transmission, rear end gears, tire size, weight and a couple other things. This is why cars list the test results they got. Now that is a number they got during their test. You might get better, but normally you get less...
Yes. Simply due to extra weight of the drive train and it's friction etc.
Often just a few miles per gallon difference.
If its the same engine, no. Only thing it might do to gas mileage but not a lot, is due to the extra weight of drivetrain but nothing major.
Id get the 4 wheel drive! Good luck!
i'm looking to buy a pick up, I've found one I like, I don't really need the 4 wheel drive, but I LOVe this pick up, but need to know if the gas mileage is much different between the 2. I can't drive much distance so it won't make a huge difference, but in haggling with them, I need to know. :) thanks Grandma wendy
