You found the secret. Yes by all means get this stuff. If one doesn't do the trick then get another. What is up with weak head gaskets anyway. We have been making engines for a long time now. Can't they make a stronger gasket? Duh. While your at it get some bars leak for future coolant leaks. That works great too. The easy way is always the way to go. Your so wise.
Most cures in a can don't work. I would like to know why you think you have a blown head gasket. I've seen it on here many times and that wasn't the problem.
PLEASE LIST CAR TYPE< year and MORE INFO! If this is a GM car made from 1996-2005, you have BAD INTAKE GASKETS! GM was SUED over this for MILLIONS! If this a JAPANESE or EUROEPAN car, there is a different answer! if this is a FORD, which is mostly a JAP/GERMAN type engine there are OTHER ways to repair it! MOST HEAD GASKET LEAKS are due to OVER STRETCHING of head bolts, BAD COOLANT CHOICES, a bad COOLING FAN SWITCH, and even BAD OIL CHOICES! On many car engines all you need to do is get NEW HEAD BOLTS (about $40-50) and rent a TORQUE WRENCH! Even if you DO need a NEW HEAD GASKE, you will need these new bolts ANYWAYS< as they are NOT re-useable after they AGE and STRETCH enough times! This will work on most FORDS, nearly ALL Asian engines, most EUROOPEAN, and many CHRYLSER ONES! FORGETY MAGIC ADDITIVES! They cause MORE problems than they are worth!
Bars Leak makes a sealer for leaking head and intake gaskets ! it comes in copper and works really well ! i used it on a chevy blazer i had once and it held for almost a year until i sold the car ! but if your going to keep the car your best bet is tear it down and replace the gasket ! if you have no antifreeze in the oil or no white smoke coming out the tailpipe then you have no gasket leaking ! if your antifreeze keeps going low then check the floor board on the passenger side, it might be the heater core leaking !
It might be good enough to stop oil from leaking out, but would not prevent any internal damage. It will be a matter of time before you find yourself calling a tow truck.
It will pay in the long run to take the head off get it tested for cracks and skimmed, check the top of the block for straightness and have it skimmed too if you have to, It wont be a fortune but you will have no hassles after you had it done properly.
Everyone who has experienced a blown head gasket should try Steel Seal. The stuff works great, but not only that, the company seems to really care about their customers. I actually found their website through a friend of mine and I ordered mine off their website. I called the number because I had a few questions about the how to actually use it properly and the company rep answered all of my questions. Make sure when you use it to read the directions a few times beforehand!
So I have a blown head gasket and I don't want to spend a fortune repairing it. I found a possible solution, if not only temporary, called "Steel Seal" I'm curious if anyone has used it so I can tell if its worth the money to buy?
