Do you need to step on the gas when putting your keys in the ignition?

i just put the key in to start the car without pressing on the gas, is this harming the car?

To be able to give you a correct answer, we need to know the year make and model of the car in question.

You do not need to touch the gas petal *if the car has fuel injection. You *do need to set the choke with the gas petal, if the engine has a carburetor.

You're not even supposed to press on the gas pedal when your starting the car, that will cause your engine to flood.

Only pedal you could hold when starting car is break pedal, in most cases, some cars require you step on break pedal before you start it.

no

If this car is newer than a 1990, there is no need to add gas to start the car. You have electronic ignition and are fuel injected electronically.

It depends if your car is fuel injected or has a carburetor, If it has fuel injection then you never push down on the gas pedal while starting the car, If it has a carburetor you need to use the gas pedal while starting the car.

Fuel injected engines don't require stepping on the gas pedal when you turn the key. The electronic controls provide fuel required to start the engine and a properly running car will idle when started, as opposed to die. No, you are not hurting anything!

NO....
