Do you need to press the clutch to shift into neutral while car is in gear?

You don't necessarily have to. Letting off the gas a bit will allow you to move the gearshift into neutral.

However, the clutch is there for a reason. It's so you don't tear up your transmission doing unnecessary things like shifting gears without clutching. They gave you a clutch. Use it!

hi, no you don't need the clutch to shift to Neutral. but you do need it to an extent to put it INTO gear... with manule transmissions having syncros in all forward gears you can shift (once the car is moving) without the clutch just by matching RPM's.. It take time and practice to do.. but I can drive all day long just using the clutch to move the car from a stop.. you can learn to shift up and shift down without the clutch.. and as long as you learn not to grind the gears when shifting your not hurting anything. RPM's down to shift up (1st to 2nd and such) RPM's up to shift down (4th to 3rd and such)..

good luck

You can go into neutral if you yank the shift lever but it wears the operating sleeve that the shift lever moves. Sounds to me like you're lazy and should buy an automatic!

Not if you need a new clutch or gears. Is depressing the clutch that difficult for you?

You don't NEED to. Makes it easier, though.
