Do I need to change the locks on the car?

To get the car re coded on some cars requires a new ecu unit due to the levels of security as it is miles away from a 1998 A4 that you could get in and drive off with a screwdriver.

There is only ONE key hole for emergency unlocking so that would need changing. Then you have the cost of the two keys, expect around £200 each. Expect with labour around £1000 to get it done completely. As said unless you left it where someone followed you home the chances someone found it and will steal the car are very remote. Personally I would just get a second key re coded and take a few extra security measures for the car for a few months.

So you are thinking someone will find it, find your car and steal it? Depending on where you lost it, that does not seem likely. Maybe is lost in your house/apt, in another car, or dropped in parking lot?

Cost wise, changing the locks would be very expensive. 53 a4, not sure what the 53 means?

For my 1998 a6, when I bought there was only one key and I wanted a spare. For the key fob, cutting and programming I think was around 200. If you got new locks, you would have three locks, labor, two new keys and programming.

NO. Take the VIN code at the base of the windshield to the dealer of the car's parts counter. They'll cut you as many keys as you want.

An Audi dealer can make you a key. I wouldn't worry about the old one.

Divorce your hubby he sounds a ***hole

I have lost the spare key to my hubby's car and he is not happy. Can i get a new key and get it reprogrammed so the lost key doesn't work, or will i have to get the locks changed. Any ideas on prices? It's a 53 Audi A4. Thanks in advance xXx
