Yes thats a very good and fair price, brakes aren't cheap and the flywheel is a big job and where most of the labour cost would be, they have to split the gearbox from the motor to replace, and in alot of cars have to take the gearbox out or otherwise drop it down in one end.
By the amount of work and parts that you have mentioned it appears as if you are the o e who actually did the ripping off. Lmao. Be happy.
Sounds pretty reasonable .
I've heard of many paying over a grand just for the main seal .
My daughter has a 2000 neon and that thing has been in the shop more times than I'd like to admit. That is only because she doesn't live in the same state I do. that being said, the neon parts are dirt cheap, really what you are paying for is the rear main labor, it is very, very involved as well as replacing the flywheel.
But that being said, I'd say he is more than fair.
But you are getting to the point on that car of needing to determine if the money going in is worth it. Really, think of it this way, for the 1200 you just put into that car, you would need to have a car, that cost only 100 per month for car and insurance.
You can't buy a new car for that...
You were not screwed if you knew how much crap has to be removed just to get to the oil pan! Why did the flywheel need to be replaced?
I can tell you why the brake caliper and both rear wheel cylinders had to be replaced: Someone never has their water-logged "BRAKE" fluid replaced on a 16 year old car!
I brought it to a 'trustworthy' mechanic, my car is a 1998 plymouth neon. and everything that needs fixed and i am paying for is:
Rear Main Oil Seal
Flywheel
Front Break Pads
Front Break Rotors
Left Front Break Caliper
Left Front Wheel Barring
2 Rear Wheel Cylinders
+ all the labor involved
It came out to be $1224.04
Is this price right, or am i getting scammed?
