Default How to do a delete pipe in place of catalytic converter on my car?

Why cant you match the pipe from a plumbing store? I thought they had more sizes there. I don't understand why you are saying to messure the pipe? The chevy dealership said it s 2 inches. So what size would best fit around it ? 2 1/8 or 2 1/4?

The only way you will know what size it is is to measure it yourself. Muffler sealer won't work under pressure so junk that idea. Using muffler clamps (U straps to you) will crush the pipe making it hard to remove if you wish to replace the cat. There are stainless steal band clamps that would allow you to seal the seam and remove it later without damaging the pipe. You will have to use exhaust pipe from a auto parts store because you will never be able to match the pipe using plumbing pipe. As for cutting the pipe the auto parts store can get you a exhaust pipe cutter. Looks like a bunch of cutting wheels on a chain, you just wrap it around the pipe and move it back and forth.

Will agree with KY-Clay: in the past I have removed converters thinking car would run/perform better.......didn't make a darn bit of difference to any of them except a slightly "throatier" exhaust note.

Eastiest thing for you to do is go to a muffler shop if you want to proceed........exact fit replacement pipes are still made, or they could fabricate one quickly.

It is illegal to remove a catalytic converter and your Chevy will not run right with it removed if that is what you are considering.

Called chevy and they said that the pipe is 2 inches. so is that 2 inches inside or outside?

So someone told me to use either 2 and 1/8 or 2 1/4 pipe. Which one will fit better? Also, I was going to use some muffler sealer (looks like white putty) to make sure everything works and clamp it on with U-straps (this is what someone told me to do)

So how would you do it? Which pipe... 2 1/8 or 2 1/4 ? and will it fit good?

also it would be cool to give me advice about cutting of the converter, do I just cut where the CC meets the exhuast pipe? Dont want to mess it up in case I want to put one back on

also is it going to matter what kind of pipe? i might have to use plumbing or other types to get the right size. could anything bad happen?
