Well if you think that its a bad fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump your now throwing money at problems that may not fix the problem If the check engine light is on there is a code to read that will in most cases tell you EXACTLY what is wrong. We need the code From an OBO2 code reader Which are handy to own

Not only will it list the codes it also resets the check engine light which most people wind up paying to do

Get the code read at an auto parts store and let us know what it is More then happy to help with a fix and parts don't forget the make model and year the information you listed here

Hope it helps

Lr

Code needs to be listed in your question Then we can tell you what it means and how to replace the parts

without taking to a shop

Take it to an auto zone or auto parts store in your area Most will read the codes for free

The symptoms sound like an ignition fault because of the tachometer jumping and likely a misfire or two.

Start with service codes. Get the diagnostic codes.

The allpar website can even show you sensors that act up dramatically without setting a code.

You will end up needing professional help on this one.

A tech who works on these everyday will have a drawer full of

Known good substitution parts in the event of a code confusion, or defective new part, which can happen.

You are not alone on this one.

Seeking help from a chrysler/jeep/mopar tech is my recommendation to eliminate guess fixes and short term luck that's erroneous from inexperience.

I have seen pcms or map conditions that were found through guesswork even by trained professionals.

Connection problems and defective parts cannot be eliminated easy if you start throwing aftermarket parts around.

I see 5 codes in your string.

Some can result from the inactivity of the part causing it.

enginecodes.com can give the definitions and possible causes.

It could be caused by the last repair, a defective part, a new part, the improper installation of a new part.

Now you decide what's the HARD FAULT(s). And begin pinpoint tests.

Tow it to the dodge garage now. of your choice.

They could find during a visual inspection of the harness and its components, that your cause can be harness and or connections as well.

If you unplug the brain, you lose data.

There are tutorials on u-tube to show the diagnostic tools and performing the required tests.

Without experience, this could take a month.

I would try replacing the Throttle Position Sensor and the Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor based on your trouble codes. There's also one for the battery being disconnected and the coolant temp sensor but that wouldn't keep it from running though.

Well, you can't find out what's wrong without getting the trouble codes read. Any auto parts store will do that for free. Once you have the code, post it here and we can help.

Trying to diagnose this without the code is like tossing money in the ocean. The trouble codes will narrow it down.

Trouble codes are P1684 P0122 P0118 P0108 P1748...thanks again for your help :)

My 2003 Dodge Caravan started lugging while driving (mainly when I came to a stop and tried to go again and up steep hills). Then just the other day i went to start it and it idled so rough that it kept dying. The rpms would jump and then drop and then jump and then drop over and over until the van died. If I tried to put it in gear it would stall out and die as well. The battery light and check engine light came on. I am a single mom with little income so I don't have money to just throw it in a shop or start replacing parts without knowing what is wrong. I'm thinking that it could be a bad fuel pump or a bad fuel pressure regulator. Please please...any advice would help and be greatly appreciated!!
