Ok, the full story. Mitsubishi 3000GT SL was fine. it decided to kill the battery one day, it would almost turn over but it was dead. Mother helped jump it off while her truck was running. Due to incorrectly painted terminals, the cables were crossed. I started my car and green sparks were flying everywhere, told her to rip off the cables, she would not she was scared. They were on there a good 5-7 seconds before I ripped them off. Terminals were destroyed. Got car started long enough to get to Autozone. Got new battery and terminals, put it car. Runs fine now. However.. there were effects of the event. On the start up after the frying, smoke came curling out of the cassette player, the sound system made noises similar to Starwars, the doors would lock and unlock by them selves, blew some light bulbs. Biggest issue, the rpms controlled the amperage to the car. If I revved the engine, all lights got WAY brighter, windows would shoot up like rockets, it was the only way to give enough power to use power locks, ceiling lights would not work without being cranked up, turning the key but not cranking would do nothing. I had to be careful when stopping, the car would randomly shut off but it recranked fine. rpms were weirdly low.. The car has slowly repaired itself.. its had smoke in the cassette player one more time, then that fried entirely and now does not really work except having the light on in the orange window that shows the time, at the same time that went out, all of the dash lights and the HEADLIGHTS do not work! no matter what they will not come on. Bulbs are fine. I checked the fuse panel on the left side of engine bay and the one in the right side and the one under the dash, one blown fuse said 'ALT.' replaced, made no difference. no other blown fuses. Windows, locks, rpms, ceiling lights and any 'turn key but don't crank' functions all work properly after the cassette headlights and dashlights went out. Rpms are normal 1k, idles fine, does not shut off or fuzz. Audio still pops and crackles once or twice a day. Did I fry a chip? Wiring? What happened? Most of my driving is at night, so no lights poses a BIG PROBLEM! Help please! what all could be wrong?

Start with finding the fuse link locations on your car.More than likely it melted a few.Replace with fusible link cable of the same gauge.Headlights may have a fuse but they also in many cases use a relay. The alternator diodes, rectifier, and internal regulator may have popped since they are electronic. The best way to check this is pull the alternator off the car and take it to your local parts store and let them do a bench charging check. If it is bad replace the unit with a new or quality reman. unit. The fusible link which is closest to the battery and probably goes down to the starter is more than likely the main problem.
The fusible links are not wires on a Mits. Look for the big fuses in the engine compartment fuse box. Better hope the key wasn't on or you may have also fried the ECU. Your Mother's car may also have been damaged. When she calls with a dead battery that will verify it!
didnt happen, your starter wont work and anything made from roughly 86 up cannot have polarity reversed. it didnt start with reversed polarity
