The guy has to make a living. Who cares if he's asking $900 you can go to another mechanic and get the work done for cheaper. There are plenty of shops around.
The price also depends on your vehicle. Every car is designed abit different.
Just because you buy them online doesn't mean they are quality. A lot of parts you get off eBay or something claim they are OE quality. But they aren't.
I did it in 3 hrs. Ordered my parts on line, sprayed penetrating oil on the old ball joints and threads every day for 3 days to free it up, rented the ball joint tool, took the old ones out and pressed new ones in, thats it. PS, I drank 3 beers. The hardest part was taking off the tires because I dont have an air impact gun or lift. Amazing how anyone can call themselves a mechanic. The garages with 20 yr olds working are a joke too.
Thank goodness for how to Youtube videos!
of all the industries I've dealt w/, the auto industry is prob the most dishonest and incompetent.
ty vm for your post.
If you think YOU can do the work in two hours, you're welcome to try.
that,s why you call around different places before time ! a lot of places charge $100.00 an hour ! there are small time mechanics around that will do the job for you a lot cheaper !
I know a guy has to make a living but when theses Mechanics want $900 to replace upper and lower ball joints, thats ridiculous for 2 hrs work! Most of the time they buy the crappy parts from the Chain Stores. I bought all my parts on line for less than $100 and those parts are 3 times the quality with zurk greasable fittings. The tool can be rented too. They also wanted $300 to put on 2 cheapie shocks so I ordered on line the best Montoe shocks for just $75. Those only took 20 minutes to install. Im not even a mechanic and only have a junk socket set. You guys can rip someone else off. My 12 yr old kid could get an ASE Certification on line its so simple. The only thing I cant do is an alignment, big deal at $59. Do all you can yourself first. Theres Youtube videos on everything. Buy your parts on line for sure because you can get the very best for less then the cheap junk from the chain stores.
