Crank sensors can fail for no good reason. Now if it was playing up when you got it back 2 months ago then you could point the finger at the first mechanic, but after 2 months? That's just bad luck.
Did you ask Mechanic #2 how much to replace the sensor? Then you know if the price is legit. I suspect it's not too far off what it should be.
lets see. if mechanic 1 damaged the sensor you would have had the problem when you picked up the car (NO PROBLEMS) and after 2 plus months of it working properly you think it is his fault. It's an 2005 with 118,000 miles on it things are going to break. Why don't you see if you can get it covered under warranty thinking like you do. When you go to a mechanic to fix something he would warranty out a defective part it's not a brand new warranty to cover anything that can go wrong with a car. Come on get real. Go ahead give me a thumbs down and Prove that there's people out there that don't know squat. Thumbs down = YOU
Mechanic2 better have proof mechanic1 damaged the sensor. It's possible, but really that's not cool if he doesn't know for sure. Get it fixed but the labor alone is 1.5 hrs and the sensor shouldn't be more than $100. so $270. is high unless that includes taxes.
After two months you want the mechanic to be responsible? Don't think so.
Okay, so I have a Honda Civic 2005 DX, everything in it is fine. I had my timing belt changed with mechanic 1 in mid August. It had around 118,000 miles on it.
Fast forward to last week, I'm at a red light and the car's engine shut's down. I see the starting up lights on the dashboard. I have to put it in park and restart the engine. The check engine light is on. This has happened multiply times since, but my car is still running as of today.
I went to mechanic 2 and he said whoever changed the timing belt must've messed up or damaged the crankshaft sensor. I go to mechanic 1 and he says it'll cost me 270 total for him to replace/fix it.
Should I go ahead and change it? I feel like this is mechanic 1's fault and I shouldn't have to pay for everything. Obviously I know next to nothing about cars so any input would be appreciated.
