lol where did you go haha? thermostat itself is under a housing piece.. it opens and closes by temperature... it could go bad and not open but other than that leaking wouldn't matter lol. now the housing that covers the thermostat could leak if the gasket is bad or they didn't do it right... but still follow the top radiator hose it connects to the thermostat housing piece.... if its leaking then its usualy like 3 bolts that holds it on besides the radiator hose that's connected.. the thermostat and the gasket together is extremely cheap.. one of the cheapest parts you can buy lol. any one could fix it wether ur a mechanic or not... just go to youtube and watch a video on changing one out of your engine...
on a second note, maybe u misunderstood or they just was talking crap you need to just look and see if there is a leak any where.. do u ever add coolant? does it ever get low? if so look for a leak...
Coolant leaks because they reused the same gasket(instead of a new one) Thermostats never leak as they are totally in the fluid under the thermostat housing.
I can help you, give me 20 min and I'll be back.
just ask them what part you need and search it online yourself and order it then take it to them and only pay them for the work.
I have a 2004 Ford Explorer Sports Trac. How much would it cost to get this fixed at an auto shop? Is it simple enough to do at home? I am not very car savvy.
