Ideally the moment you get in the car for the first time.
Right at the start, before you're even allowed to start the engine. Can take anything from 5 to 30 minutes depending on the level of pupil.
If yours hasn't done this right from the off, change to another instructor before you get too used to his ways. He's a lazy sod and won't teach you properly.

at what stage did your driving instructor go through wtih you the controls ie:the lights ,how to start the car and how to operate the general controls like windscreen wipers before you actually move off ?
