Chevy transmission problems?

Pull codes first, the computer may have the trans locked in limp-in mode allowing only 3rd gear operation.

Find someone that knows and understands how your trans works!

I'd like to know after you get going if it does shift through the gears, like can you go sixty miles per hour without the tack maxing out? If so they I'd say your torque convert is locked in high range. Costly, yep. Other then that I'd be looking at the engine for a problem. Maybe the cat is clogged or the exhaust system.

Torque converter has no high range. It's locked or unlocked, that's it. No bearing on gearing.

Why would you think speed sensor? Does your cruise control work? Does your speedometer work? Are you getting a code for VSS? If you don't have any of those problems, don't guess.

You will have to get the trans scanned at a local trans shop or the dealer. There's no way of telling what's wrong, or how much it can cost to fix. It sounds like a shift solenoid is hung up.

Got a 1994 Chevy Silverado Z71 5.7 350 with auto tranny. Tranny seems to be stuck in 3rd. I have to give it a lot of gas to get it to go. I can pull my shifter down but it still doesn't go out of 3rd. I can be driving down the road and stomp it but still nothing changes. I've never had tranny problems before and this happened all at once. Can anyone help me? What happened? Is it a costly repair? Something DIY or shop?
