Check engine light came on?

It might just be a problem with the condenser fan - try this quick experiment. Zoom zoom up to about 45 mph or higher and try the a/c. If it doesn't shake and you feel cool air coming out, this is good news.

It confirms that the compressor is fine and you just need to get air flowing through that condenser. Could be a problem with a fuse or the fan motor assembly itself. Turn the a/c back off before slowing down or it will shake again.

How many Miles? Mazdas have a nasty habit of dying after 200,000 miles, and the check engine light may be illuminated, but the engine may be fine, read the manual to find how to reset your dash indicators. If this does not work bring it in to a dealership

Every female uses the "I maintained it well" line, just like "I'm open minded" on the dating sites.

Take it to a good shop to see if the A/C compressor is seized up.

Sounds like your A/C compressor is going out, putting excessive load on engine. Either don't run A/C, or have it looked at by mechanic. It's a spendy fix.

Usually the check engine light means that you should check the engine

I drive a 2001 Mazda 626 in really great shape....since it started getting warmer out I started messing with the Air Conditioner which I noticed started shaking my car, like the hood would shake and I would feel it inside the car, so I shut it off.

A friend was using my AC 2 days ago and it shook the car and also put on my check engine light, what could be the issue with my AC?

The hood doesn't shake with the heater on, just the air conditioner...I am going to get the code pulled today, I've had the engine light on before with misfires in my 3rd cylinder which I've put new spark plugs and wires in...anyone have answers?
