I think some mechanics are lazy and many think a misfire code must be a ignition issue. Take it to a "better" guy that will take the time to do a fuel pressure test on it and determine if the fuel injectors are operating properly.
you could exchange a new ignition at maxspeedingrods.co.uk
A bad fuel pump or plugged fuel filter would be other options.
I have a pontiac grand am 1999 2.4l twin cam, it has around 169k miles on it, recently it has started to shut off on me while I either hit a stop light and I'm there for some time or when I have it running on park etc. if the car isn't moving then all of a sudden it feels like the motor loses power the RPM meter drops a bit but right away jumps back to where it is and eventually at times the engine shuts off, I took it to a mechanic and their scanner read it was the ignition module and they replaced it but it is still having the problem why is it shutting off? And what would it cost to fix?
