It sounds like your battery is not charged fully. Cheap as* jumper cables (less than $100) will not start a vehicle without some help from the battery in the vehicle. I would charge the battery or get it charged and checked. With a light load (lights or radio or similar) the battery has to be at least 12V or it indicates that the battery is not charged.
had this with act once. turned out to be a paler ( cell) shorting internally so even a jump start would not work. before rushing to get new battery try jump start direct to starter motor. or tapping solenoid when batteries connected DO run engine on donor car when doing so at around 1500-2000 rpms. thus enabling alternator to assist battery. don't crank up immediately on connecting allow 20 seconds for batteries to stabilise after jump connecting. ( have donor engine running before connecting)
check all connections e.g. starter.earth . for loose or corroded wires etc.
if we find no joy? disconnect our battery and try straight from jump leads on donor car..if we then crank normally and start? its a dead cell in battery.
Mostly likely just a bad connection. Check both terminals of the battery for corrosion. Also make sure that that both cables are on tightly. The clicking occurs in the solenoid, usually caused by a low power supply because of a bad connection.
Yes replace the battery
Hi so it is time to call out a breakdown truck to either get it fixed or have it towed to the nearest vauxhall dealer for them to sort it out tomorrow monday.
Car battery reading 12.3v but drops to 11.9 with radio on. Car wont event jump start . When turning key doesn't even try to start just one clicking noise (sounds like comes from fuse box ) however I have checked fuses . And it's not the stater . Which leaves me to think I need new battery any ideas . It's a vauxhall astra sport hatch 2008
