Car taking longer than usual to start?

It could be associated with the cold weather we are having, but if it's been a longer problem then it very well could need a tune up. At least spark plugs, and if you can afford it wires if you can't remember when they were last replaced. Over time carbon will build up on the tip of plugs lessening the power of the spark and the combustion cycle, making it harder to start. I wouldn't bother with other things at the moment. But if it is all of a sudden then it may be the battery go to advance auto or autozone and have them do a "load test" on your battery. That will tell you all you need to know.

Mostly good advice so far. Try this. Turn your key on but do not start the car for a couple seconds. Wait till all the idiot lights go off. Then see if the car starts up faster or still cranks, er er er, like it seems to be doing. If it does start faster mostly likely fuel related. Have somebody check the fuel pressure. Does not mean a bad pump. Could just be a bad check valve.

When was the last time it was tuned? New Spark plugs at least, possibly other things like the leads etc.

Worn plugs give a weak spark, and that makes it hard to get the engine started.

When turning car on pump the gas pedal a little bit it might help if ur check engine s on could be an 02 senor not definite. Tho!

Hello

It could either need a service or the battery getting old

Tune up , things like plugs , wires , wearable ignition components and air filters being replaced make for any easier start .

Get you better mileage too

Hi this is usually the symptoms associated with a blown head gasket.

2005 BMW 330ci, 131,000 miles

Every now and then I find that it takes a bit longer to get the engine fired up. I m not good with car terminology, so bear with me.

Normally the engine should go "er-vroom (on)"

Now it sorta goes "er er er er er er - vroom (on)"

what could be the problem?
