Transmission is slipping. Time for a rebuild. yes, $1500 to $2000 sounds about right. That's if only soft parts are needed. if you keep driving like that, it'll start damaging hard parts, which means more $.
That's because your transmission is failing , if you're lucky it can be repaired but I'd say expect a $1,500.00 rebuild .
maybe clogged trans filter, take it to trans shop

Whenever in drive, and going from a stop, it takes up to a second to engage when i press the gas. I press the gas, car revs up, then suddenly it shoots forward. Sometimes it takes even longer than a second.
