Car making a whining noise. Now it won't start?

The whining noise is more then likely a problem with the alternator Did you break the belt? When starting a car after its running the starter disengages and the alternator take over to run the systems of the vehicle

All cars with alternators going out will kill the battery and once out the only thing thats making it run is the battery once it goes out your vehicle is dead If you jump the car disconnect the black negative cable at the battery {No you will not get shocked} If the car dies the alternator is bad A jumped battery will give you 5-10 minutes of driving with all accessories off Batteries have a effective life span about 4 yrs

Most folks don't change the battery until a problem arises with it. If you alternator is bad it will kill the new battery in time

Hope it helps

Many times that whining noise is just the alternator drive belt. As they age they stretch and don't grip the alternator pulley as tight as they should, resulting in a dead/low battery. If the jump starts it get it to a mechanic and ask them to change your belt, or if you're feeling ambitious do it yourself.

Maybe the starter, or alternator. The alternator runs on the serpentine belt and it could have been just the alternator pulley seized. And so on. Hopefully it is just the battery, which should be replaced every 3-5 years.

An unusual whine not very loud is the telltale of blown diodes in the alternator.

I noticed on my way home from work my car was making a whining sound. Stopped at the store and now my interior lights turn on but the car won't start. It's making a clicking sound like it wants to start but won't. So I'm sitting here waiting for a jump and hoping it's just a dead battery -_- someone enlighten me
