German law requires emission standard to be met sooner than US after cold start. To meet this regulation, Mercedes-Benz allows transmission to shift LATER when cold to warm up the engine sooner. All Mercedes-Benz do this. Until it warms up, RPM will go up to about 3000 before shifting.
That's perfectly normal.
No, it is not doing any damage. Those cars are designed to be driven hard on Autobahn. RPM at 2500 is nothing.
Hi here is the situation the engine is now worn after 10 years so it will not run slower and needs to warm up. so it has to run at a high rpm tilt is warm. wear and lack of servicing over the years have taken there toll on this engine designed to last just 8 years. so time to adjust your mind.
If your car is exposed to temperatures below zero often then use automotive antifreeze whenever you fill up at the bowser to prevent water ice and condensation buildup in your fuel line normally caused between the high range change of temperatures between parked overnight to warming up/hot engine than cooling again.
Also check your engine air intake for ice buildup and the blockage could be starving your engine of oxygen.
The engine is designed to do this to help get up to temp. You do not want to alter this. If you're concerned let the car warm up before driving
I have a 2004 mercedes e500 it is hitting high rpms such as 2000-2500rpms when it idles in the morning and than later goes down to about 1200. I am just wondering how can I get it to stay lower whenever I begin to drive. I know it has something to do with the temperature, but I don't like hearing it stall, it makes me feel like my engine is getting harmed. Thanks for any help :)
