Car dies after I replaced a burned out fuse?

Relax, it's not your fuse-changing skills. Try this. Pop hood, and start engine, A/C off. See how belt runs around A/C compressor pulley (big, pump looking thing w/2 aluminum tubes going into back, near top of engine), but center of pulley itself doesn't turn? That's a clutch. Have someone turn on A/C on. You'll hear a click, and clutch hub SHOULD turn at pulley speed. If it doesn't, and engine dies, your A/C compressor that you replaced a year ago is seized up

It sounds like your new A/C compressor is locking up. It could be due to lack of lubricant, too much freon or just a bad compressor. If it runs fine with the A/C off, try driving it. If it is still o.k. then turn on the A/C and if it now stalls out turn off the A/C and drive it that way or take it to an A/C shop.

If it was the AC fuse, something could be wrong with the compressor or the blower, and the fuse will probably blow again soon.

have you tried to start it without the fuse? What happens?

My car AC hasn't been working lately, so I checked the pressure to see if it was leaking refrigerant - the pressure was fine, so I checked the fuse. The AC fuse was burned out, so I replaced it, being careful to select the right amperage and making sure it was the right fuse. However, after I replaced it, my car starts, then dies after about 5 seconds. Did I do something horribly wrong? Is this something that I can reverse easily rather than taking it to a mechanic?

It's a 2000 Ford Focus and I had my battery replaced about 3 months ago and my AC compressor replaced a little over a year ago. I had no check engine light or anything, and it was running fine before I plucked out the little fuse with some pliers. The AutoZone guy that sold me the fuses could tell I was nervous, so he actually came out with me to help me plug it in in the parking lot to make sure it was the right fuse, right place, etc. I'm so baffled that I couldn't even plug in a fuse without breaking my car lol. Thanks for any suggestions!
