Depends on the type of engine.

Old school cast iron engine, yes you can reuse the bolts. But some new alloy engines actually rely on the bolts deforming slightly as they are torqued down. Those bolts can only be used once, and you have to buy a new set of you replace a head gasket.

Many manufacturers have specs for the size of bolts;

provided these "bolts" haven't streached beyond the size limit they're deemed as usable.

but it's down to individual manufactures .

So you would need the original spec bolt length and some way of measuring from un der ther bolt head flange to the thread end.

I use a dial gauge calliper.

New head bolts are inexpensive. We'll bet the old ones have stretched. If you measure overall length with a precision *vernier caliper against a new set. ARP head bolts are better than the originals.

Not if the head is aluminum and the bolts are torqued to shear, you must replace them every time or they will fail and break following Murphy's Law!

Yes, as long as the integrity of the bolts is still good. Just make sure you properly torque them during reinstallation.

if they are torque to yeilds or damaged, no. other wise as long as they are clean and straight, yes.
