Evelyn is right.
With a petrol engine the air is monitored with an air Mass meter and the fuel comes from that measurement it is in theory possible to get more air in so more fuel so a bit more power but only on full throttle with a filthy air cleaner. If you are racing then maybe.
In a diesel the air is not restricted the fuel injection is what is restricted so it is unlikely to make any difference and will cost loads of money.
Dr + Mrs Bears face is spreading panic.
The modifications covered are tot eh cars structure, electronics and safety systems.
They do not cover a chrome air cleaner.
What will happen if you have modified your car a points system is used to see if an IVA test is needed.
Air cleaners get nil points therefore do not get covered.
Many of the 4x4 guys mods do get covered.
Defective bits or bits removed are an issue and will give you a fail.
Save the cash.
Hi well as from 1st jan 2014 al modifications are illegal., so when it goes for it's MOT the fact that you have changed it from a standard car could be what gets the car crushed by VOSA.
Vosa is the government agency who controls all the MOT test stations.
so is it really worth it just to have a chromed air filter. i don't think so.
No reason why not but it's a waste of money given the price of them.
An air filter is an air filter, it has one job to do and that is to remove harmful particles of dust & dirt from entering the engine. A clean K&N is as good as a clean manufacturer's air filter but don't believe the crap about more BHP because it's not true unless you alter the engine management system.
i wouldnt, especially in a dirty environment, and this is why; k&n is an oiled filter. it collects lots of dirt. when the turbo spools, it will form a vac. diesels and vacuums are a no no. itll suck the intake oil seal on the turbo in a heartbeat. this then becomes a runaway, but people run em everyday, i just wouldnt.
I only have one on my 2004 Dodge, only because it was there, and I don't do any off-roading. I would steer away from it.
its a retrograde step. all diesels are full airflow systems so no advantage changing plus may well allow dirt etc to ingress standard filter stops.
manufacturer spent millions testing engines filters etc in many different environments so very unlikely to get an improvement. it will NOT add more power to engine.
You really shouldnt be putting them on gas burning engines. But Harry is correct above
Can you put kn airfilter on diesel engine
