Can you change a vaccum advance distriibutor engine over to a non vaccum distributor?

You'll get better fuel economy with the vacuum advance distributor from Canada, so use it, and use the timing settings that go with it. Vacuum advance increases advance when you are light on the throttle such as constant highway speed. More advance = slightly better fuel economy. If your fuel quality is good and it doesn't ping you can increase advance slightly over stock setting.

if we have changed distributor for different type..it will have it's own advance curve. Hence follow distributor setting rather than engine.

This ought to work unless major engine differences such as cubic capacity. If we get pinking? ( sort of sharp rapping or knocking sound) when under heavy acceleration or overheating or low power issues.. Then we may need to try changing timing.

lacking vacuum advance can have ill effects on the engine. the vacuum advance senses a load on the engine. yes some cars do not use this device but on most that have to be tested periodically, it has to be there. pinging can be from a lean mixture, a vacuum leak which is virtually the same. carbon build up in the cylinders can do it too. go beyond just the distributor.

Use the appropriate distributor for your car....... put the correct distributor into the new engine....pretty simple, really.

Non vacuum advance distributor = mechanical advance distributor.

Okay long story short I have a Toyota 1986 camry le. I bought a used motor for it and it came with a vacuum advancer type distributor. my old motor had a non vaccum distributor. Now in my repair book there is two different timing settings depending on where the motor was made. a engine with a vaccum distributor is made in canada. a engine with a non vacuum distributor is made in the Usa. So my question is since i changed it to a non vacuum ditsribuor which timing setting should i go with usa or canada please help!!!
