Can my engine overheating harm my automatic transmission?

Absolutely it can. The transmission is often cooled through the radiator. As hot as the engine got, the transmission wasn't far behind. If it still shifts fine cold, deal with the engine problem right away. A minor problem like a bad fan, relay, leaking hose or radiator, or belt, can destroy an otherwise fine car. If it has been overheating chronically, and the transmission is feeling sick, it may be time to start shopping for a new car. If you are just starting to see a hot running engine, fix the issue right away.

Yes, Engine overheating can cause Transmission problem in your car. You have to fix it if there is any transmission problem in your car. You should be aware of every possible thing you have to know regarding your car engine and also about all types of transmission issues. Just take a look at the slide here http://www.slideshare.net/Cameronedwards... and you will able to know the details about all the transmission faults and the possible way to over come those with the reason for those issues.

Excessive heat causes transmission parts such as clutch material and seals to wear and fail. Overheated transmission fluid doesn't lubricate parts as well and fluid additives breakdown.

As others have said, most transmissions are cooled through the engine radiator so Yes, and overheated engine will kill the transmission as well.......in fact, an engine running too hot will probably damage the transmission before engine internals.

It would be useful to learn why the engine is overheating. If it's a defective or plugged radiator or thermostat or water pump, that's a good start. Next, after getting the problem fixed, use quality synthetics in the engine and transmission because they will reduce premature wear during extreme situations. Curious about what make and model of car and the odometer reading?

It could the radiator also cools the transmission fluid Burnt oil looses its viscosity, which is the slipperiness

of the oil and that can ruin a transmission which will be an expensive fix.

You also can damage the engine

Hope it helps

Depends on why the engine overheated. There's a transmission fluid cooling loop that runs through the radiator; if the radiator coolant has leaked out, the transmission fluid won't be cooled, either.

It could, but just make sure that you have preety good amount of anti freeze and also make sure you have a good amount of transition fluid, I personally would check to see if your cooling fan is kicking on and see if your radiator is working but make sure it's the engine radiator and not the ac

yes and if you don't find and repair the problem you're looking at 2.000 dollars to repair to the transmission

Yes it can

yes it can
