Can i drive without a drive shaft?

I just bought a Jeep Cherokee, and the drive shaft is not in it, but it drives just fine. Just no 4 wheel drive without it.

If you took the driveshaft off, how could it move it 2WD mode? Take it off and drive it to a junk yard in 4WD hi to get another driveshaft.

Your small pickup will be either FWD or RWD. Get that fixed.

I've heard of off-roaders blowing a U-Joint or a rear diff and limping the car home in 4-Hi. It's basically a front wheel drive at that point.

It's not reccomended, however. It's one of those tricks to get you out of a bind. Fix the U joint ASAP.

If it is 4wd yes both front and back ether drive shaft however the back one not a big deal the front axle if that's the only one that's on you want to get the back one back in before the transfer case fails back no front you just don't have a 4wd it's just a two wheel drive all the time you can put that one back in at your earliest convenience

Hi guys i drive a 2002 dodge dakota. 2WD, 4WH, 4WL with 190k miles on it.

The u joint is busted i was wondering if i could just take the drive shaft out? and use it for driving on the road.

Would i be fine or cause more problems
