Can a torque converter lock my engine up if installed wrong?

No way. The engine produces enough torque to strip out the pump tangs. Nothing *in* the trans is a mechanical connection (it's all fluid/hydraulic) to the engine, thus it can't.

The ONLY piece of the torque converter that is physically connected to the transmission AND engine is the outer shell you can see when you crawl under the car. It's the pump, but as mentioned, it will tear the pump tangs up, not lock up the engine.

Hi, yes it can.. as Harry says.. when installed properly the torque converter should be about 1/4" away from the flex plate when the transmission is installed and need to be pushed/pulled up to the motor then bolted up. if done wrong it can damage the pump.

good luck

yes, if not indexed fully into the pump it binds the crank and torque converter and may ruin the pump in the trans.
