Can a garage check if the odometer on my car is inaccurate?

My car says I've done 11000 miles since march this year, that doesn't sound right because I don't do many long journeys. What can I do?

Thanks

Quick check.

Look on Google maps and find a place that's about 10 miles from home.

Write down your odometer reading.

Driver there.

Compare the numbers.

If the cars says you have driven ~10 miles, then it's working right. If it says you have driven 15, and you know it was only 10, then you have a problem. But that would be VERY unusual.

I suspect you have just driven further than you think.

Your Speedo and you milometer (the mile counter) can be 10%+-. If you have a sat nav and set a route and take mileages before and after and see the difference but if that says 11000 you can bet your bottom dollar that is what you have done, if its an older car with mots that has it mileage on it.

well what do you mean by not many long journeys. bet the short trips do add up

do you drive to work? what's the round trip mileage?

going on errands what's that mileage

bet the odometer is fine you just don't realize the amount of miles you put on it

You can find places that authenticate speed and odometer - not any garage can do this though.

Find a five mile route (use google maps) and take the route in your car (setting the trip meter at the beginning and checking it at the end. Should give you a good idea if it is off, by how much, and in which direction.

they can check it ..but will charge you ...you can do it for free....you only have to find a road sign that says the mileage to a town etc ...check your speedo reading and drive there ..check reading
