What if the faulty ignition locks up your steering as you are going down the road?
I would get a new ignition switch, if it's already half way broke, it wont be long before it's all the way broke. Replacing it with a push button may work for the starter, but it is not a replacement for the ignition switch, the ignition switch is often a double throw switch (2 or more switches that work together), it controls a lot of circuits and has many contacts inside, which is probably relevant to the increased cost.
NO. "Universal start buttons" are for use by a mechanic while working under the hood of the car. It is NOT meant to start the car to drive it.
There are Universal Start push button selling on ebay for $20. My car has an ignition problem where i cant start my car by turning the key all the way. My mechainic says i need a new Ignition Switch. But ignition switches cost $50+.
My question is can i buy the start button instead of the ignition switch? Is it a replacement for the Ignition switch?
My key is able to turn in the ignition, just wont start the car. From my understanding, the key only needs to be in the start position for the Start Button to fire up the engine
