Can I return my broken new car?

Nope. You bought it. You own it. It was sold AS IS without a warranty. No warranty means no warranty.

Next time you buy a car have it checked out by a mechanic first. That costs about $100, but it'll be the best $100 you ever spent.

This is the price you pay for making bad decisions.

You're stuck with it pal. There is no returning a car after a sale in this state.

The lemon law applies to new cars only.

volvos are neat when they work. sadly coils and such are nearly impossible to predict a failure. I would suggest next time have the car inspected by a Volvo dealer. they are nice but if you have a major repair, they are very expensive.

no you cant return it

If you have warranty

Talk to an attorney to see if you have any grounds. If you do, talk to the dealership and be prepared to take them to small claims court

I bought a car, a used 2004 Volvo S40, from what I thought was a reputable dealer in Santa Monica, CA. I bought the car on a Sunday, the following Thursday night the car breaks down in traffic, the engine stalls when starting at a red light. After a few tries I manage to start the car and although the gas pedal feels weird and doesn't respond well, I am able to get the car home. First thing the next morning I take it back to the dealership, who also runs a service shop.

After a few hours they call me to tell me that the ignition coils and spark plugs are worn out, but that they had no way of predicting a thing like that when selling me the car. Since I did not sign the extended warranty, and the warranty that came with the car only covers the engine block pretty much, I will have to pay for the repair. $355 was the price we came to after having talked them down from $1450+. I picked the car up the next day, drove to the beach with a friend, and on our way back, the CHECK ENGINE light comes on again. I drove straight to the dealer, and after having kept it overnight they tell me a sensor in the engine is not working, and they want to keep the car overnight again. This car is a $11000 headache (I know I overpayed, but I liked the car when it was working), and three of the first 8 nights it's been in the shop. Do I have any right on my side to return the car or get compensation? I've tried getting in touch with the sales manager, but to no avail. Thanks for reading all this! :)
