Can I get my money back from a mechanic?

If they were only suppose to repair the light then they had no business fixing the other issues. Unless you told them so they might no t give your money back.

If the repairs cost more than the value of the car you really shouldn't have gone through with the repairs or you should have gotten a second opinion from another car repair place.

You may never get them to refund anything; I suspect they just want you to give up and go some place else. Tell them you are very unhappy with what's transpired and you think you should note it on Angie's List as well as the Better Business Bureau. It may be an idle threat but you have nothing to lose.

I take it you have talked to the manager.

Is there some attachment you have to this vehicle? I suspect most who comment here will wonder why you put so much money into a car that is worth so little.

It is their job to tell you what is wrong but your decision on whether or not to fix the car. Unfortunately it sounds like they may not have done the best job and hopefully they will make the proper repair that you paid for but they cannot give your money back. You told them to fix the car so they have spent time and money to do that. Now they must make good on that.

I recently brought my car to a mechanic to get my turning signal switch fixed. The mechanic found several "other" potential problems and recommended that they be fixed. The car has a blue book value of 1500 dollars, the repair cost was 2500. A large portion was devoted toward a new AC system and tires. When I picked the car up the engine had substantially less power and the AC only worked when driving above 50 mph. I brought the car back and they were able to fix the problem for the moment. A day later the AC stopped working and the engine power seemed to suffer as a result. I brought the car back again and was told it should only take a couple of hours to fix. At the end of the day the car was not ready.

I have to go to work in the morning and am a little upset I will have to find a ride to and from work. I am worried this is now going to be a on going problem that I don't have the time of patients to deal with. Can I ask for a refund or is this just part of repairing a old vehicle (its a 1999 Chevy cavalier)?
