The easiest way to determine if an engine is a 2-cycle or 4-cycle would be the number and type of fill ports on the engine. If the engine has a single fill port
for both the oil and gas, the engine is a 2-cycle. If the engine has two fill ports, one for gas
and another separate fill for oil
, the engine is a 4-cycle

Sound like it's a 'two-stroke', so you would be best running it on Regular Unleaded fuel, mixed with 2-stroke oil (all the garages and supermarkets sell it in their Motoring section) which you should mix in the ratio of 50:1, petrol to oil. So for every litre of petrol, you need to add 20CC of oil. Too little and it won't lubricate the engine, too much oil, and it will keep fouling up the spark-plug. Measure it out carefully, add the oil to the can and shake well.
well done allan ...you have given the guy all the info he needs ...in europe its often 25-1 ..only 50-1 if you use stihl oils ...never heard of 32-1
I recently purchased a 1978(?) 3hp Briggs & Stratton Engine and was informed of a pre-mix fuel that is needed. I cant find any markings on the engine, is there anyway to know the ratio of oil:gas that I need to put in?
Sorry if this isnt the right category but I couldnt find a more fitting one.
