Brake pad replacement. Caliper won't close. Piston is compressed. What am I doing wrong? Picture attached.?

spray some pb blaster on it then pull it all the way out after that grease it like its supposed to be.

Caliper piston is sticking in the bore of the caliper because of corrosion and rust because someone has never changed the water-logged brake fluid. Lexus recommends brake fluid should be changed every two years regardless of mileage.

Caliper slide pins should have no nicks or rust. They shoulld be replaced with ones from a *Toyota Dealer because they are black and hardened better than silver ones (softer) from any auto parts store. Lubricate the new ones with synthetic brake grease. Make sure there is no rust or corrosion on the caliper brackets where the calipers slide.

The part your thumb is on ought to be able to be pushed inwards along the fixing pin tube it's mounted on. Ought to be slightly flexible.

Ensuring pads are pushed back to allow easy slide on over discs in needed, ( check main reservoir for overflowing ..if cap is on excess fluid can stop pads moving)

Check out how to fit pads on u tube. Hopefully your model will be shown but many others are so we can often get an insight how to fix our own. A decent workshop manual ought to give detailed information to enable this to be resolved.

Looks like time to get new calipers, too. I would go with reman rather than _new_, they are just as good and about half the price.

Sometimes takes a little bit of twisting plus lube but they should slide on over

Those are called sliders and yes that is what they must do. A new bracket will come with ones that do. You could possibly free that one but it has been my experience that they freeze up again shortly after freeing. Nice pic.

I have an 08 corolla and I'm trying to change the front brake pads. I replaced the pads and compressed the piston with a C Clamp.

If you look at the picture, the two things in the picture hit each other (where my thumb is). They need about 1/8th an inch to clear.

The thing my thumb is touching, is that supposed to slide in? I couldn't get it to move with a hammer or with a C Clamp.

Thanks.
